Therefore, the high schools (Discovery Canyon, Pine Creek, Rampart, & Liberty) have different methods for dealing with parent requests for student release-time from school. Some methods are smoother than others. Currently, the seminary classes available are:
- At the DCC Seminary building (located on Northgate Blvd in the Challenger Homes Office), seminary will be offered TWICE DAILY: one class in the morning and one class in the afternoon. This schedule will accommodate the block schedule. So, using DCC's schedule as an example, if your student has study hall on a Purple day or Silver day during 1st or last period, there will be a seminary class offered.
- At the Liberty Chapel (located on Scarborough Drive next to Liberty High School), seminary will be offered during Blue days for 1st period ONLY. (Not in the afternoon.) The seminary class at the Liberty Chapel is primarily for students attending Liberty High and Rampart High.
1. You must work with your student's counselor to set up a study hall for either the first class of the day or the last class of the day. Remember that the classes are on a block schedule, so your student will only attend seminary 2 or 3 times per week depending on which day their study hall is scheduled. Seminary is offered every day of the week to accommodate all students' schedules. This may mean that your student has to take an online class in order to receive enough required credits.
2. After the study hall is set up, you must request a release-time pass from the school which grants permission for your student to leave the school grounds. Basically this means that for first period study hall, your student goes straight to seminary. For last period study hall, your student will check out of school and meet the carpool to go to seminary.
3. If you are not able to adjust your student's schedule for seminary, you may request a Home Study option through the Stake. Contact the Bishop for further infomation.
(NOTE: Keep in mind that not all counselors or schools are supportive of LDS seminary classes. One parent suggested not using the term seminary at all during your discussions with the counselor. Instead, focus on just getting a study hall in the time period that works best.)
